One lecturer at DeVry was fond of saying "There's no such thing as 'the good old days.' They were just old."

Oh yeah. That guy was cool.

By the time I graduated, he'd lost a bunch of weight and didn't wear suspenders anymore.

Good Old Days

I noted that a while back.

I have a record "Bring Back Those Wonderful Days" from 1919 which demostrates that whenever the "Good Old Days" were, they were already missing them as long gone in 1919.

If you were moderately lucky and had decent parents (and probably even if you were pretty poor), the Good Old Days were when you were a little kid. Of course, being tiny and powerless, you probably didn't actually think of them as all that good at the time, but at least you didn't need to worry about gigantic world events.

I think that's about it. Little did I know what a crappy time the early 1970s really were.

And then, of course, when you do come into contact with the world (and if you're lucky enough not to live in a war zone or other hellhole), it's somewhat sanitized for you. Everyone in the United States ends up getting the World's Fair, I'll Have A Flying Car dream, or some equivalent. I've occasionally alluded to the fact that the year this happened for me seems to have been, of all years, 1976, a year not usually associated with such things today.
